I love me some mystery and thriller novels in the winter! I don’t know why, but it just seems like the snowy season is a great time to sit down and read this kinda thing. If any of you have a suggestion for a mystery or thriller with a winter setting that you’ve read and really liked, please send it my way!
Above is the solution to last week’s game that was posted over on the Fright Files website. This week, instead of posting a new image for the game, I’ve decided to post a poll. I’m hard at work for the second book in the series, which I hope will be available in the last week of December. For the third book, I wanted to turn to my readers to find out what YOU want. That’s right. You can choose the topic for the third book! Yay, you!
Head on over to my website and vote by making your selection from the poll on the right side. But please, just vote once. And if your favorite fright isn’t listed, drop me a line on the contact form or on my Tumblr and let me know!
Horror for kids: Peter Swift’s Fright Files: The Broken Thing
To begin, the Fright Files are good. The biggest improvement it makes upon the series that have preceded it is the addition of an overarching plot that will tie the series together. That plot takes the form of a mysterious…
One note. The reviewer states that the entire series will be offered digitally for free, and that’s not quite right. This first book is free, but the following books will be available for a very reasonable price. I want to make them affordable for everyone.
I don’t want this blog to be a place for commentary, but this has been bugging me all day, so I need to write it out somewhere. I was online last night and talking to someone about their blog and my book, and she was a really sweet kid. 15 years old I think she said. She had posted a bunch of cool images, and also some stuff plugging my website. Very nice of her. Anyway, later on her blog a picture of the American flag burning and the Twin Tower attacks went up as though they were good things.
This really bugged me. Not only because the images were hateful, but because of the poster.
I’ve been fortunate enough to work with lots of really great kids that come from secular counties that often don’t get along or have a history of war. What I’ve seen is that once you put these kids in a room together with a common topic (science, sports, Harry Potter, whatever), the politics all just falls away and they’re kids together.
People and politics are completely different.
I don’t want this to be preachy, but you kids are our hopes, dreams and futures. You are the future of this world. With an open mind, it’s just as easy to plant love and friendship as it is to spread hate. And it’s far more productive in the long run. Seriously. Love and understanding will bring peace. What will hate bring?
Note: Just checked out her blog and those pictures were removed and there was a note later asking why so many people had stopped following her. I don’t think she stopped to think about how her posts really touch her followers.
I’ve only been on Tumblr for a day, but I’ve decided I love it. It offers the perfect mix of blogging and ease that really suits my busy (read: lazy) lifestyle.
It also lets me connect with people more likely to read my books, and that’s awesome. On Twitter and Facebook, I connect with other writers, publishers, and reviewers, which is great, but I think Tumblr is the best way to connect with the readers. After all, you folks are the ones I want to read my books! And I’d love to hear from you.
BULLYING. IS. FOR. LOSERS. Do you ever wonder how you made that girl feel? When you called her a SLUT. BITCH. FAT. WHORE. Mentioned she had ugly clothes? Or what about that boy...That you said was WORTHLESS. WEAK. RETARDED. A FAGGOT. Did it make you feel good? Did it make you feel powerful? Did it make you feel better then them? CONGRATULATIONS. What you might not realize is the words you say.. Could potentially affect someone for the rest of their life. Cuts and bruises go away. But words remain with you forever. Forever. The words dig into your soul. FAGGOT. WORTHLESS. SLUT. What you may not know is that there are many different forms of bullying. Not just verbal. But there is. PHYSICAL. CYBER. SOCIAL. RACIAL. RELIGIOUS. SEXUAL AND DISABILITY. Well, how does it feel? To beat somebody up for being gay. To make fun of somebody while hiding behind a computer screen. To ignore someone because they're different. To pick on someone because of their race. To make fun of someone because of their religious beliefs. To target someone because of their gender. To mock someone because they walk differently. Have you ever considered the consequences of your actions? You don't know whether the person you're bullying is having a BAD DAY, BAD WEEK, A BAD MONTH. You don't know whether they're depressed, You don't know whether their mother has been diagnosed with cancer. You don't know whether their best friend died in a car crash. You don't know that because YOU'RE bullying them. They could go home and END THEIR LIFE. YOU JUST DON'T KNOW. Bullying doesn't make you more powerful. It doesn't make you better than anyone else. All bullying accomplishes is. Nothing. NOTHING. Bullying accomplishes NOTHING. Are you proud still? The next time you consider bullying.. Stop for a moment. Stop and Think. Put yourself in their shoes. Imagine going to school and not feeling safe. Imagine wanting to HURT yourself because someone is prejudice against you. What you might not realize is that you CAN change. And you CAN make a difference. It may take a day, It might take a week, No one can make the discision but you. Only you. STOP THE BULLYING. END THE HATE.
